Variations among Ln learners

There tends to be great variation among Ln learners. That is, Ln learners tend to be from different cultural and linguistic communities. As you read in Box 0.1 in the opening chapter, the students in Peter's class came from a variety of backgrounds: White American, African American, Chinese, Thai, Tongan, Haitian, Ecuadoran, Mexican, Iranian, and Sudanese. Even though these students are all Ln learners, their cultural and linguistic differences may pose different challenges to English learning.
